NEW BRITAIN – A looping line drive into left field off the bat of Bryan Richman gave the Vermont Lake Monsters a 1-0, breaking a scoreless tie in the seventh inning and silencing a New Britain crowd who had been waiting to erupt all night long.
That one run would prove to be the decider, as for the second time this series the visiting team made the four hour bus trip and pitched a shutout, this time the Lake Monsters behind the combination of Chase Burrows and Ethan Freed.
The New Britain staff was excellent as well, surrendering just the lone run and lowering their series ERA to 0.50. Trey LaMay (Stonehill/Washington, CT) got the start for New Britain and went four scoreless innings and struck out five.
Dylan Swarts (Union/Chester, NJ) was one of the only bright spots for the offense, accounting for 2 of the 4 Bee hits in the game.
The FCBL Championship Series is heading to a winner-take-all Game 3 on Sunday afternoon in Burlington. First pitch is set for 1:05 PM and can be viewed on the Futures League Network.
