Bees Win Two of Three at Home to Finish Best Week of 2025

By Connor Wilson

(New Britain, Conn.) The New Britain Bees won two out of three at New Britain Stadium to finish the team’s best week of the summer!

On Friday, the Bees defeated the Lake Monsters 9-6, those nine runs a season high for the ball club. Caleb Miller (Union College/Rome, NY) slugged the team’s first home run at New Britain Stadium of 2025 with a two-run shot just fair down the left field line in the third inning to push the score to 5-1. Colin Crowley (Winthrop/Southington, CT) and Bennett Crerar (Princeton/Cheshire, CT) drove in three and two runs respectively to help lead the charge offensively.

New Britain starter Joe DeRienzo (Salve Regina/Trumbull, CT) came into the game with 14 scoreless innings so far this summer. The right-hander saw his streak get snapped, but still went five strong innings allowing just one earned run. Garret Garbinski (UConn/Clinton, CT) tossed a scoreless inning to keep his ERA perfect and Evan Mello (Wheaton/New Bedford, MA) picked up his third save of the season, pitching out of a jam in the ninth.

The win gave the Bees a season high four-game winning streak after the team started the week with road victories in Worcester on Tuesday, Nashua on Wednesday and Norwich on Thursday.

On Saturday in front of a packed house for Fireworks Night, the Bees fell to the Lake Monsters 5-2. Tyler Stone (Virginia Tech/Hamden, CT) shined on the mound, tossing five no-hit innings while striking out four. Vermont got its first hit of the game on a bunt single in the top of the sixth inning.

Offensively, JT Clark (Eastern CT State/Bristol, CT) had two hits and an RBI and Brandon Gaer drove in the other New Britain run. Tim Hennig (Binghamton/Wantagh, NY) stole his seventh base of the summer, good for second on the team.

Finally, the Bees hosted the Sea Unicorns on Sunday afternoon and closed the week with a 7-1 win.

New Britain got the offense rolling early with a five-run second inning fueled by a two-RBI triple from Julius Rosado (Rutgers/South River, NJ) to the deepest part of the ballpark. Cam Righi (UConn/Wethersfield, CT) had a multi-hit game in the win and finished the week with eight knocks in six games.

Pitching was the story in Sunday’s win, as behind Carson Parrott (Tennessee Tech/Monroe, TN) and his four strong innings with just one run and five strikeouts, four New Britain relievers combined to keep Norwich out of the run column the rest of the way.

Overall, the Bees finished the final week of June with a 5-1 record, pushing the team’s record to 14-15 on the season. The Bees are currently in fourth place in the Future’s League, just a half game back of Nashua for third.
