Bees Knock Off Revs In Series Opener

Hamburger Notches Third Win, Romero Goes Yard In Multi-Hit Performance

(New Britain, CT– June 4, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (14-21) defeated the York Revolution (16-15) 6-4 at New Britain Stadium on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series in the Constitution State.

New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (3-3) earned the win after allowing four runs (two earned runs) on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings of work, walking two and striking out seven. The right-hander tallied his fourth quality start of the season, matching Andy Van Hekken for the club lead in that category. York starting pitcher Zac Grotz (2-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs on five hits in six innings pitched, walking four while striking out seven and tossing a wild pitch. Evan Scriber fired a scoreless inning of relief in the top half of the ninth for his first save in a Bees uniform.

Trailing 3-0 after just one half inning of play, the Bees went to work against Grotz, sending ten batters to the plate, scoring five runs on four hits to take a 5-3 lead. After James Skelton began the rally with a leadoff opposite-field double right over the third base bag, Deibinson Romero brought Skelton home with a run-scoring single to cut the deficit to 3-1. Three batters later Matt Tuiasosopo plated Romero with an RBI base knock of his own to get New Britain within a run at 3-2. Jamar Walton would give the boys from the Hardware City a 4-3 advantage when he drove in Jason Rogers and Tuiasosopo with a base hit, and Ozney Guillen enabled Josh Thole to cross the plate with the fifth run of the frame for New Britain by way of a fielder’s choice which put the Bees on top 5-3. A York run in the top of the seventh got the visitors to within 5-4, but after the fans stretched out their arms and legs, the Atlantic League’s Co-Player of the Month for April and May in Romero cracked a solo home run down the left field line to give the game its final score of 6-4 as Romero added to his club lead in roundtrippers with seven and runs batted in with 28. Romero led the way for New Britain with a pair of hits and now has 13 multi-hit games and seven multi-RBI games on the campaign, leading the team in each offensive category.
