14-Run Onslaught Gives Patriots Series Victory Over Bees
Rogers Matches Team-High Hitting Streak
(Bridgewater Township, NJ – July 14, 2019) – The Somerset Patriots (2-1, 44-29) defeated the New Britain Bees (1-2, 36-36) 14-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday night in the rubber game of a three-game weekend series between Liberty Division rivals.
New Britain starting pitcher Jed Bradley (3-4) was tagged with the loss after surrendering six runs (four earned runs) on six hits (one home run) across three innings pitched, walking two while striking out one and tossing a wild pitch. Somerset starting pitcher Thomas Dorminy (5-4) picked up the win, allowing just one run on seven hits in six innings on the mound, walking one and striking out eight. Vince Molesky fired three scoreless frames of relief to notch his first save of the season.
New Britain took a 1-0 lead just three batters into the ballgame when Alejandro De Aza plated Darren Ford by way of an RBI single to right field after Ford gave the keynote in the contest with a clean base hit to center and later stole his team-leading 15th base overall. Leading 2-1 in the bottom half of the third inning, Somerset batted around versus Bradley, scoring four runs on five hits to open up a comfortable 6-1 advantage, highlighted by a solo home run from Alfredo Rodriguez and a two-run double produced by Mike Ohlman. The Patriots sent eight more batters up in the last of the eighth and tallied four more runs to give the game its final score of 14-1, with the big blow being a two RBI double courtesy of pinch-hitter Crag Massey against Anthony Alicki as the home team finished the matchup with 12 hits in total. One of the bright spots on an otherwise frustrating Sunday evening for the boys from the Hardware City was Jason Rogers, whose two base knocks extended his hitting streak to 15 consecutive games overall, matching Alexi Amarista (May 22nd-June 5th) and De Aza (May 10th-May 26th) for the longest hitting streak on the ballclub this season.
