New Britain Belts Three Home Runs En Route To The Win
(New Britain, CT– August 19, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (18-19, 51-49) defeated the Long Island Ducks (23-15, 53-48) 10-2 at New Britain Stadium on Sunday evening to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series between Liberty Division rivals.
New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (9-8) was victorious after allowing one run on four hits (one home run) in six innings pitched, walking one and striking out three while hitting a batter. The right-hander tallied his third consecutive win and team-leading tenth quality start of the season. Long Island starting pitcher Matt Larkins (6-4) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits (three home runs) across six innings of work, striking out five.
New Britain took a quick 2-0 lead versus Larkins in the home half of the first inning by way of a two-out, two run home run to left field off the bat of Matt Tuiasosopo, his seventh big fly of the campaign. The boys from the Hardware City made it 3-0 in their favor in the bottom of the third when James Skelton drove in Vince Conde with a run-scoring base knock to right field after Conde began the frame with a leadoff single. The Bees went out in front 5-0 in the bottom of the fourth as Joe Poletsky launched a two-run tater to left, his first in a New Britain uniform. After a David Washington solo shot in the top of the fifth cut Long Island’s deficit to 5-1, the home team continued to put on a long ball clinic in the bottom of the sixth when Jovan Rosa registered the third roundtripper on the evening for the Bees as they continued to flex their muscles, a solo blast to left that put New Britain ahead 6-1, Rosa’s third home run of the year. New Britain broke the matchup open in the bottom of the eighth, sending eight men to the plate and scoring four more runs in the process to give the game its final score of 10-2, highlighted by a two-run triple from Jamar Walton, and RBI singles by Jonathan Galvez and Vince Conde. Galvez led the way for New Britain with his third three-hit game overall. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
