Nine Bees Headed To Vermont For All-Star GameNine Bees Headed To Vermont For All-Star Game By Connor Wilson
The Bees will be well represented at next week's Future’s League All-Star Game in Vermont as nine players from New Britain will be making the trip up north.
On the pitching side, three Bees received the call. Brian Hart (Hofstra/Rosedale, NY) has been named an all-star for the second straight season. Hart is 2-2 on the season in 12 games and has three saves. He leads the team with 40 strikeouts in 31 innings and has a 4.07 ERA.
Jared Kuryan (Western New England/Madison, CT) is the second pitcher headed to Vermont. Kuryan is 3-1 on the season with a 3.97 ERA. He threw the first no-hitter in franchise history against Brockton on June 18 and is second on the team with 32 strikeouts.
Andrew Evans (Kansas State/Olathe, KS) is the final pitcher selected from New Britain. The right hander is 2-1 on the season with a 4.32 ERA in 16.2 innings. He’s struck out 21 hitters compared to just five walks and has the third lowest WHIP amongst Bees with at least 15 innings pitched at 1.14.
On the offensive side, the Bees have six representatives, putting them tied with Norwich for the most position players elected.
Catcher Jimmy Keenan (St. John’s/White Plains, NY) gets the nod after blasting six home runs and driving in 23 runs so far. The six homers are good for the team lead and second in the entire league. Keenan also has a .866 OPS, putting him in the Top 10 in the league amongst players with at least 100 plate appearances.
Infielder Freddy Forgione (SUNY Maritime/Ronkonkoma, NY) cracks the squad after hitting .317 with one home run and 15 RBIs. His 32 hits are tied for second on the team and he’s second on the team with a .435 on-base percentage. He also boasts a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base.
Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) is the next infielder as he makes the team for the second straight season. His .308 average is tied for third best on the team and he’s also tied for third in RBIs with 21. Pettorini is the only Bee in double digits this season for stolen bases with 12.
Bryce Molinaro (Penn State/Drums, PA) is the final infielder selected. Molinaro is tied for second on the team in home runs with two and is second with 22 RBIs. He’s had eight multi-hit performances this season and two four hit games. He is also an on-base machine, as he’s second on the team in walks with 16 and has a .407 on-base percentage.
Moving to the outfield, Garrett Scavelli (St. John’s/Franklin Square, NY) arguably has been the best player for New Britain. He’s batting .343 with one home run and 12 RBIs and a team high .911 OPS. Scavelli had a string of six consecutive multi-hit games in June and has 12 multi-game hits on the season. That .911 OPS puts him fifth in the Futures League amongst players with at least 100 plate appearances.
The final Bee headed to Vermont is Gavin Greger (Bryant/Bristol, CT). Greger is batting .287 with one home run and 13 RBIs. His 31 hits are fourth on the team and his six stolen bases rank him third. He’s tied for second on the team with seven doubles and had a four hit game against Brockton earlier this month.
New Britain still can have one more representative next Tuesday, as Aidan Cohall (St. John’s/Bronx, NY) is one of the eight players selected for the “Fan Vote” in which the top two vote getters will be named all-stars. Vote for Cohall using the link below! Voting closes at 11:59 p.m. on Friday.
The 2023 Future’s League All-Star Game is set for Tuesday, July 25, at 7 p.m. at Centennial Field in Burlington, VT. The Home Run Derby is set for Monday, July 24. |
