Scudders Gem Propels Bees To 12-0 Win Over RoxScudder’s Gem Propels Bees To 12-0 Win Over Rox By Connor Wilson
Playing the first of four straight games against Brockton, the New Britain Bees defeated the Rox 12-0 on Friday night at New Britain Stadium for their 20th win of the season.
Dylan Scudder (Eastern CT State/Simsbury, CT) was the star on the mound for New Britain as the right hander tossed six scoreless innings allowing three hits, no walks, and five strikeouts
The Bees got the scoring started early as Bryce Molinaro (St. John’s/Drums PA) lined an RBI single and a Jake Given (UMass/Boulder, CO) bases loaded walk combined with a Rox error made it 3-0.
Scudder kept the Rox off balance all night, registering weak contact and a lot of ground ball outs in his six innings of work.
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Bees broke it open in the bottom of the fourth thanks to a bases clearing triple from Ryan Taylor (Penn/Elmer, NJ) and a sacrifice fly from Gavin Greger (Bryant/Bristol, CT) to make it 7-0.
The Bees struck for another four spot in the fifth headlined by a two-run double from Jamie Palmese (East Tennessee St/Berlin, CT) and a two-run single from Brady Short (Central CT State/Hurley, NY) and jumped out to an 11-0 advantage.
Scudder picked up his fourth win of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.42. His four wins leads the team and puts him in a three-way tie for the league lead.
The scoring didn’t stop in the fifth as the Bees tacked on one more in the sixth thanks to Given’s second RBI walk of the game.
The defense was on display all game long for New Britain, but a diving play from Taylor on a ball up the middle was the highlight of the night.
Despite the 12 runs, the Bees only had eight hits and took advantage of seven walks and three hit-by-pitches from Brockton pitching. Given, Billy Mrowka (Skyline College/Duxbury, MA), and CJ Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin/South Kent, CT) each drew two free passes.
TJ Winn (St. John’s/Manchester, CT) relieved Scudder and pitched an efficient 1-2-3 inning to clinch the mercy shortened victory for New Britain.
The Bees and Rox are set to play three more times this weekend, with a doubleheader tomorrow in Brockton before the series finale back at New Britain Stadium on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:35 and kids can run the bases after the game. |
