Bees Defeat Suns Again, Remain in Second Place

(PITTSFIELD, MA) - The New Britain Bees defeated the Pittsfield Suns for the second straight day, winning on the road 4-3. 

 

With the win the Bees remain in sole possession of second place in the Futures League standings, remaining ahead of the Nashua Silver Knights by one game. 

 

After a scoreless first from both teams, the Bees scored two in the second when Jason Claiborn (Eastern CT State/Prospect, CT) drove in two runs on an error. 

 

The Suns answered in the bottom of the second, however, scoring a run of their own on a Bees fielding error to cut the lead to 2-1.

 

In the bottom of the third, the Suns would tie the game at 2 apiece when Alex Gabauer (Pennsylvania College/North Huntingdon, PA) scored on a passed ball. 

 

The score would remain tied until the top of the 5th, when Christian Holmes (Kansas State/Frankfurt, IL) scored on a fielder’s choice and Teddy Schoenfeld (MIT/Boulder, CO) scored on an error by the Pittsfield catcher, making the score 4-2.

 

The Suns would cut into the deficit and get a run back in the bottom of the seventh, on an error that scored Brock Mercado (UNC-Asheville/Franklinton, NC).

 

Ryan Egan (Fordham University/Clinton, CT) had his best start of the season, going five-innings and giving up four hits, two runs and two walks with three strikeouts.

 

Emmett Tolis (Fairfield University/Madison, CT) and Julian Thayer (University of Rhode Island/Meriden, CT) each came on for an inning of relief. With Tolis, only giving up one hit while punching out two. Thayer gave up one run and two walks. 

 

Benny Wilson (George Washington University/Hatboro, PA) came in to close the game out and threw two scoreless innings while striking out four, to earn his fourth save of the season. 

 

The Bees will look to win their third straight game when they face-off against the Worcester Bravehearts tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tune into fcblnetwork.com to catch the action. The Bees are back home Friday, July 22nd to take on the Worcester Bravehearts at 6:35 p.m. The first 50 fans will receive a Two Roads Brewing glass. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
