(NASUHA, NH) - The New Britain Bees defeated the Nashua Silver Knights by a score of 9-4 last night in a back-and-forth showdown at Holman Stadium.

The Bees offensive power was on full display as they took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) opened scoring with a base-hit to drive in Jake Blinstrub (Georgia Southwestern/Peachtree, GA), giving the bees a 1-0 lead. A failed pickoff attempt at first base allowed Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT) to score from third to make the lead 2-0. Pettorini came around to score on a Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO) base-hit to the outfield, making the score 3-0.

A strong five inning performance by starting pitcher J.C. Kiss (Molloy College/Hicksville, NY) secured him the win against the Silver Knights. Kiss allowed six-hits and four-runs, shutting down Nashua batters with five-strikeouts.

The Bees regained the lead in the fifth inning on a Craig Corliss (UMASS Boston/Hopkinton, MA) single to left field that scored Pettorini and C.J. Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin College/South Kent, CT) that brought the score to 5-4. Schoenfeld tacked on another run on a wild pitch to end the inning at 6-4.

The runs continued to pile in for the Bees in the top of the sixth with a two-run home run by Brito-Trinidad, making the lead 8-4.

The Bees bullpen shut down the Silver Knights for the final four innings, with Brito-Trinidad and Elijah Cohen (Colby College/Marblehead, MA) each pitching two scoreless innings to close out the game. The two combined for four-strikeouts, one-walk, and no hits in their performance.

The final run of the night came in the bottom of the eighth inning with Pettorini’s sacrifice fly to right field that allowed Torniero to score, extending the Bees lead to 9-4.

Brito-Trinidad went two-for-three on the night with two-runs-batted-in and one-strikeout, earning the honor of the Future’s League Player of the Night. Pettorini finished three-for-three with two-runs-batted-in.
