(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The Bees fall to the Silver Knights 5-4 Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium.
Starting pitcher T.J. Wainwright (CCSU/Stamford, CT) was lights out, going six strong innings allowing just one run on five hits while punching out four Nashua hitters.
New Britain was able to provide Wainwright with some early run support in the bottom half of the first when Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO) hit a line drive into left field driving in Jake Blinstrub (Georgia Southwestern/Peach Tree, GA) giving the Bees an early 1-0 lead. Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State,Wooster, OH) was thrown out at the plate trying to score on the same play.
The Bees wasted no time again in the bottom of the second as Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT) singled to left field driving in Jason Claiborn (ECSU/Prospect, CT), putting the Bees up 2-0 early.
Later in the fifth, Claiborn singled to center field driving in Schoenfeld putting the Bees up 3-0.
Nashua crawled back into the game, slowly scoring one run in the sixth and one in the seventh cutting New Britain’s lead to 3-2.
Nashua wasn’t done there. Pinch hitter Shane McNamara (Eastern Nazarene/Londonderry, NH) hit a go-ahead three-run homerun off Bees pitcher Bryan Kraus (Rhode Island/Trumball, CT) giving the Silver Knights a 5-3 lead in the eighth.
The Bees were able to cut the Silver Knights lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the eighth when Torniero jumped on a first pitch fastball driving in college teammate Elliot Good (CCSU/Meriden, CT). Unfortunately the Bees couldn’t get any more runs across the plate.
The Bees will be back in action tomorrow July 14th at home versus in-state rival Norwich Sea Unicorns for Thirsty Thursday. Enjoy $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon throughout the game.
