GAME 32: Bees Take Down In-state Rival Sea Unicorns 5-3

(NORWICH, CT) – The Bees defeat in-state rival Sea Unicorns, 5-3 in a battle at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. 

The Bees wasted no time as they took an early 3-0 in the top of the first. Ryan Daniels (UConn/Meriden, CT) drove in Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT) with a base-hit to right-field giving New Britain a 1-0 lead. Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO) came around to score on a Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX) groundout. Daniels scored on a Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) infield single giving Starting Pitcher, Mick Kelley (Yale/San Francisco, CA) some early run support before even taking the mound. 

Kelley was dominant from the beginning, going five strong innings allowing seven-hits, one-run on two-strikeouts, earning himself the win and Futures League Pitcher of The Night. 

The Bees were able to tack on another run when Shaw was able to score on a pass ball giving New Britain a 4-1 lead. 

Pettorini extended the Bees lead when he drove in Schoenfeld on a base-hit to right field, extending New Britain’s lead 5-1. 

The Bees fended off a Norwich comeback as they were able to score a run in each of the last two innings. 

Torniero went three-for-five on the night while scoring one-run. Pettorini finished two-for-four with two-runs-batted-in.
