(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The Bees came back from a five-run deficit to defeat the Nashua Silver Knights 8-7 on a walk-off notching New Britain’s sixth straight victory.
Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce/South Boston,MA) stole second base and scored on two throwing errors from Nashua fielders which tied the game up at one a piece in the bottom of the first.
That didn’t last for long as Nashua was able to put up a five spot in the top of the second courtesy of a three-run homerun from Chris Katz (Wake Forest Univ./Raleigh, NC), which gave the Silver Knights a 6-1 lead.
Elliot Good (CCSU/Meriden, CT) blasted a solo homer in the fourth, cutting Nashua's lead down to 6-2.
The Silver Knight’s got that run back in the top of the fifth on a Matt Travisano (Univ. Pittsburgh/Carlisle, MA) single that extended Nashua’s lead to 7-2.
Things started to turn the Bees way when C.J. Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin/South Kent, CT) knocked in Matthew DeRosa (Quinnipiac/North Haven,CT) with a double slicing the Silver Knight’s lead to 7-3.
Matt Goehrig (Post Univ./Clifton, NJ) ripped a clutch single in the bottom of the eighth knocking in Gavin Greger (UConn/Bristol, CT) which made it only 7-4, Silver Knights.
It didn’t end there as New Britain was able to score three more runs in the inning tying the ball game. Luke Lappe (North Alabama/Meriden, CT) scored on a fielder's choice. Brito-Trinidad scorched one to third base, scoring Lara and Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT) on a Nashua error.
Craig Corliss (UMass-Boston/Hopkins,Mass) hit a walk-off on a fielder's choice as Good came around to score the winning run for New Britain.
The Yale University duo Mick Kelley (San Francisco, CA) and Colton Shaw (Richardson, TX) gave the Bees some solid relief pitching. The two combined for five-innings of two-hit baseball while allowing just one-run on six-strikeouts.
