(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The New Britain Bees defeat the Brockton Rox 8-2 to secure their first victory at New Britain Stadium in the 2022 campaign.

The Bees bats were buzzing in the bottom of the second when they put up a five spot against Brockton starting pitcher Brendan Walker (Stetson Univ./Woodsville, NH).

Teddy Schoenfeld (MIT/Boulder, CO), Craig Corliss (UMass - Boston/Hopkinton, MA), Mike Torniero (CCSU/East Haven, CT), Colton Shaw (Yale/Richardson, TX) and Jake Williams (Yale/Murrysville, PA) all came around to score in an electric bottom half of the inning giving the Bees a 5-0 lead.

Brockton was able to put one across the plate in the third on a sac-fly from Peter Messervy (Harvard/Weston, MA) cutting the Bees lead to 5-1.

The Bees added two more runs in the fourth on a mammoth two-run home-run from Anthony DePino (Univ. Rhode Island/Madison, CT) who made his Bees debut. This gave New Britain a 7-1 lead.

Messervy drove in Brockton’s second run of the game on another sac-fly that cut the New Britain lead to 7-2.

Jeff Nicol (CCSU/Wolcott, CT) gave the Bees even more run insurance when he laced a ball into the right-centerfield gap that scored Shaw. This gave the Bees a 8-2 lead.

T.J. Wainwright (CCSU/Stamford, CT) got the nod for New Britain going five strong innings earning him the win allowing just four hits, two runs while punching out five Brockton batters.

The Bees pitching was steady all night as Martin Zhang (Columbia Univ./Orange, CT) came in to relieve Wainwright, going two-innings allowing just one-hit and striking out five batters.

Justin Lessing (Middlebury College/Westport, CT) came on to pitch the final two-innings of the game striking out four batters. Lessing has currently pitched ten scoreless innings for New Britain this season.

Shaw went three-for-five on the day while crossing the plate twice. Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce Univ./South Boston, MA) went three-for-five on the day with two stolen bases and a run batted in.

New Britain will travel to Westfield tomorrow June 8th to take on the Starfires for some early morning baseball starting at 10:30 A.M. The Bees will be back home Friday, June 10th to take on the Nashua Silver Knights for Hospital of Central Connecticut Appreciation Night.
