NEW BRITAIN, C.T. -- The Bees' attempt to win their third straight game just falls short as the Worcester Bravehearts score the go ahead run in the ninth inning to win 4-3 over New Britain.  The Bees got out to a lead early and the game continued to swing back and forth until the very end with Worcester coming out on top.

The Bees started things off right where they finished on Friday night in the bottom of the first inning with runners on the corners and no outs.  Griffin Arnone (Elon University) slapped a single into left field that brought home the first run of the night in New Britain’s favor.  The bats remained quiet as both Angelo Baez (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Alex Price (Middlebury College) were easily getting hitter after hitter out, which picked up the pace of the game immensely.

The fifth inning saw Worcester finally get some runs on the board and in a big way.  With one out and runners on the corners, Danny Torres (Saint Leo University) hit a ground ball into a fielder’s choice, making it safely to first on a very close call.  This brought in one run to tie the game, but the scoring was not done.  After Torres stole second base, Ben Rice (Dartmouth College) hit a deep ball just short of the left field wall that brought home the go ahead run for the Bravehearts.  Rice would then score in the next at-bat with EJ Exposito advancing to first base by an error from New Britain’s third baseman, Derek Tenney (University of Hartford).  The Bravehearts then led 3-1 but New Britain slowly battled back in the bottom half of the fifth inning when Danniel Rivera (Southern New Hampshire) cracked a double into left field that brought home Matthew Bertochi (Central CT State University) from third.  That cut the Worcester lead to just one.

With the Bees still trailing by one in the bottom of the eighth inning, Ryan Bagdasarian (Eastern CT State University) hit a single into centerfield that scored Griffin Arnone from second base.  The energy at New Britain Stadium was wild all night and the game tying run got all the fans on their feet cheering and screaming. 

That energy would soon settle down in the top of the ninth inning when Danny Torres connected on another single and collected his second RBI of the day, this one proving to be much more important.  Jakob Barker (Valdosta) closed out the game with two strikeouts and a flyout in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Worcester the win.

Alex Price made his fourth start of the season and besides a rough fifth inning, had another good outing throwing six innings while giving up five hits.  Macguire O’Sullivan (Assumption College) received the loss after pitching the last two innings and giving up the winning run to Worcester in the top of the ninth inning.

The Bravehearts started Angelo Baez who pitched five innings giving up two runs on three hits, while also striking out six batters.  Carson Hauben (Rollins) received the win for his eighth inning appearance, and Jakob Barker recorded his first save of the season.

The Bees drop to 5-12 on the season, while the Bravehearts improve to 11-5.  New Britain travels to Westfield tomorrow for their first doubleheader of the 2020 season.  The first game is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. with the second game beginning at 5:30 p.m.
