FORMER ST. LOUIS CARDINAL, TWINS FARMHAND RE-JOINS BEES FOR SECOND SEASON
(New Britain, Conn., June 20, 2017) - New Britain Bees team officials today announced that the team has re-signed left handed pitcher Nick Greenwood. Greenwood, a native of Cromwell, Connecticut, earned the first win in Bees franchise history on April 22, 2016, and rejoins the team having not allowed a run during his Bees career.
Greenwood, 29, tossed 19 innings for the Bees in 2016 before having his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins organization on May 6. Greenwood finished the 2016 season splitting time between Double-A Chattanooga and Triple-A Rochester, appearing in a combined 21 games while posting a record of 9-4, 1 save and an ERA of 3.20. Greenwood was the first player in Bees franchise history to have his contract purchased after appearing in a game for New Britain.
A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Greenwood made his Major League debut for the St. Louis Cardinals on June 16, 2014 and has appeared in 20 MLB games during his career. In 8 professional seasons, the 6-foot-1, 180 lb. left hander has tossed 822 innings across 308 games, registering a 4.03 career ERA while striking out 487 batters.
To make room on the 25 man active roster, the Bees have transferred RHP Eric Fornataro to the disabled list, retroactive to June 18th, and have placed RHP Mike Lee on the inactive list.
