Bees Set To Face Sea Unicorns In FCBL SemifinalsBees Set To Face Sea Unicorns In FCBL Semifinals By Connor Wilson
Despite the regular season coming to a close this past weekend, the baseball isn’t stopping in New Britain. The Bees clinched the fourth and final spot in the FCBL playoffs and will take on the one seed Norwich Sea Unicorns this week.
The playoffs is a best of three series with the teams alternating home games. Game one of the series is on Tuesday in Norwich, game two is on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. at New Britain Stadium, and game three, if necessary, is in Norwich.
The Bees have now made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons under Matt Gedman after never making it in franchise history beforehand. The Vermont Lake Monsters and Worcester Bravehearts will face off on the other side of the bracket.
New Britain has certainly enjoyed their fair share of success against Norwich this season, as they’ve gone 8-3 against their in-state rivals. Outfielder Christian Scanlon (Merrimack/West Haven, CT) has been at the forefront of the success, having blasted five home runs this year against the Sea Unicorns.
In the FCBL playoffs last season, the Bees got swept by the eventual champion Nashua Silver Knights 2-0. Should they advance in the postseason this season, the championship round will be TBD.
In honor of the Bees making the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, the team is doing a playoff promotion for the game on Wednesday. The “Geddy Special” includes $2 tickets to the game, $2 Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, $1 Martin Rosol’s hot dogs, and the second “Bark in the Park” of the season where fans can bring their dogs to the game. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m. at New Britain Stadium. |
