(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The New Britain Bees defeated the Norwich Sea Unicorns 4-3 in a thriller at New Britain Stadium Thursday night as the Bees clinched home field advantage in the first round of the 2022 Futures League Playoffs.

New Britain got on the board early when Mark Coley (Rhode Island) launched a solo home run over the left field wall. Coley has hit home runs in back-to-back games and has five total on the season for the Bees.

The Bees tagged on another run in the first when C.J. Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin) lined a single into right field that scored Colton Shaw (Yale) giving the Bees a 2-0 lead after one.

Norwich’s C.J. Willis (Western New England) hit a solo homerun to cut New Britain’s lead in half, 2-1.

Norwich evened this game up at two apiece in the fifth when Ray Leonzi (Eastern Connecticut St.) drove in Zac Zyons (Bryant).

Shaw (Yale) untied this game in the sixth for New Britain, when he hit a two run double into the right center gap that scored Jason Claiborn (Eastern Connecticut St.) and Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce) giving New Britain a 4-2 lead.

Norwich came back within just one run when Chris Maldonado (Vanderbilt) scored on a fielder’s choice by Andrew Bianco (New Haven).

Benny Wilson (George Washington) would come in to close the game out for the Bees earning save number six on the season.

Bees pitching was solid tonight as John Kiss (Molloy) and Ryan Egan (Fordham) combined for six innings of three hit baseball while allowing just two runs and striking out six batters.

The Bees are back in action tomorrow August 5th as they travel to take on the Brockton Rox at 7:00 P.M. The Bees are back home Saturday August 6th for the final regular season home game of the year at 6:35 P.M. to take on the Westfield Starfires.
