(NEW BRITAIN, CT) – The Bees lose to the Silver Knights as Nashua prevails in a home run derby shootout after a ten-inning 1-1 tie at New Britain Stadium Friday night.

The Silver Knights struck first on the night when Richie Paltridge (Montgomery, NY/Siena) knocked in Jack McDermott (Yardley, PA/ Amherst) in the top of the third giving Nashua a 1-0 lead.

It didn’t take long for New Britain to even the game as Gavin Greger (UConn/Bristol, CT) laced a double that split the left-center gap. Later that inning Teddy Schoenfeld (MIT/Boulder, CO) hit a sac-fly to third-base that scored Greger evening up the score 1-1.

New Britain’s pitching was lights out as starting pitcher Chris Gibbs (Mitchell College/New Britain, CT) went a strong four-innings pitched allowing just one-run on six-hits, two-walks and one-strikeout.

The solid pitching didn’t end there as Bryan Kraus (Univ. Rhode Island) entered in the fifth going three-innings of scoreless one-hit baseball while punching out five Silver Knight batters.

Justin Lessing (Middlebury/Westport, CT) and Benny Wilson (George Washington/Hatboro, PA) both combined for three-innings of scoreless baseball while allowing just one-hit and striking out three Silver Knight hitters.

Ten innings wasn’t enough for either team as they entered a home run derby style showdown. Nashua was able to win in the first round, 3-1.

Teddy Schoenfeld (M.I.T./Boulder, CO) went two-for-four on the night driving in New Britain’s only run of the night.

Joel Lara (Franklin Pierce/South Boston, MA) who had an off day came in as a pinch-runner in the bottom of the ninth and stole two bases, accumulating twenty stolen bags on the year.

The Bees will be back in action tomorrow June 18th taking on the Vermont Lake Monsters at 6:35 P.M. on Harpoon Brewery prize night. Gates open at 5:35 P.M.
