NEW BRITAIN, C.T. -- The Bees just continue to win, again tonight defeating the Westfield Starfires, 6-3.  The Bees scored three runs early on and continued to play well at the plate and defensively to secure their tenth win of the season.

After a lead-off double from Kyle Brennan (Endicott University) to start off things in the bottom of the first inning, Ryan Bagdasarian (Eastern CT State University) hit a single to left field that allowed Brennan to come around and score.  A few batters later with bases loaded, Noah Martinez (Central CT State University) hit his first of three doubles on the night to drive home two runs and give the Bees a comfortable lead early on, 3-0.

The third inning saw both teams tack on a run, first with the Starfires when Devin Kellogg (University of Hartford) was able to advance home by an error from New Britain's second baseman.  This was the first run of the night for the Starfires.  The Bees struck right back with a couple doubles by Andrew Cain (University of New Haven) and then Noah Martinez who drove Cain right home to give New Britain a 4-1 lead over Westfield.  The fifth inning was a similar situation with Westfield scoring on a fielder’s choice ground ball from Braydon Seaburg (Quinnipiac University) that scored Eric Callahan (Millersville University) from third base.  But guess what?  The Bees matched the Starfires with a run of their own after a double from Todd Petersen (UConn) who later scored by a wild pitch.

The Starfires began a 2-out rally in the top of the seventh inning with runners on first and second base.  Andre Marrero (Quinnipiac University) stepped up to the plate and drove in a run, hitting a single right by the Bees third baseman into the outfield.  But that was all the scoring the Starfires were able to do, stranding two runners on base.  The scoring would end there, but not the excitement when in the bottom of the eighth inning, Mike Caruso (Fairfield University) was hit in the helmet by a pitch and he was pumped up.  Caruso sprinted to first base while also pointing right at New Britain’s dugout, with everyone screaming and shouting at him.  It was the perfect way to end the night for the Bees, winning yet another ballgame this week.

The Bees started Ben Casparius (UConn) who pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three hits and just one run, while also striking out six batters and walking none.  The Bees pitched four pitchers out of the bullpen, with Tim Blaisdell (University of Hartford) recording the win after two innings pitched and striking out two batters while giving up just one run.  Jagger Duquette (University of Bridgeport) entered the game in the top of the ninth inning for his second appearance with the Bees since being acquired, and picked up save number two.

The Bravehearts started Alex Gomes (Southern New Hampshire) who pitched 3.0 innings and gave up four runs on seven hits, receiving his first loss of the summer.  Four other pitchers also saw relief action for Westfield tonight.

The Bees improve their win streak to four games and also improve to 10-15 on the season, while the Starfires drop to 9-14.  New Britain plays the second of a five game homestand tomorrow afternoon against the Worcester Starfires, who they defeated twice earlier this week.  First pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium.
