(New Britain, Conn., September 22, 2019) – Two Bees players had their contracts purchased by MLB organizations during the 2019 season, while another two went on to play in foreign leagues. Here’s a look at how each of them did:
Jovan Rosa was the first Bees player to have their contract purchased. The slugger went on to play for Tabasco of the Mexican League on May 6. In 67 games for Tabasco, he posted a .337 batting average with 12 home runs, 53 RBI, 34 runs scored, and a .415 on-base percentage.
Taylor Motter was the next New Britain player, and the first to head to an affiliated organization when his contract was purchased by the Oakland Athletics on June 25. He appeared in 60 games for Double-A Midland of the Texas League, collecting a .213 batting average with 16 extra-base hits, 26 RBI, and 30 runs scored.
Christian Friedrich followed suit and was the first pitcher to have their contract purchased in 2019. The lefthander headed overseas to the NC Dinos of the KBO on July 1, where he would make eight starts. He posted a 6-2 record with a 2.82 ERA and 43 strikeouts over the course of 51.0 innings pitched.
Alejandro De Aza was the final Bees player to head back to the affiliated ranks in 2019 when the Minnesota Twins signed the slugger on July 17. He would report to Triple-A Rochester of the International League, where he appeared in 35 games, and collected a .352 batting average with 19 extra-base hits, 31 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a .432 on-base percentage.
