Bees Add Lefthander

(New Britain, Conn., May 14, 2019) – The New Britain Bees today announced the signing of pitcher Michael Johnson.

“Michael will add some depth to our pitching staff,” says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. “He’s an experienced lefthander and we look forward to his contributions with the club.”

Michael Johnson joins the Bees for his Atlantic League debut during his seventh season of professional baseball. Last year, the lefthander split time between Triple-A Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa of the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. In 43 combined appearances, he posted a 4.95 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched.

Johnson was originally drafted by the Dodgers out of Dartmouth College in the 14th round of the 2013 MLB amateur draft. The Massachusetts-native spent his entire professional career with Los Angeles, reaching as high at the Triple-A level.

The 28-year-old holds a record of 24-12 with a 3.30 ERA and 379 strikeouts over the course of 346.1 innings pitched in 245 minor league appearances.
