Bees Shutout Patriots In Crucial Series Opener

Romero’s Eighth Inning Solo Home Run The Difference In The Ballgame

(Bridgewater Township, NJ– June 26, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (28-27) defeated the Somerset Patriots (30-23)  1-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening to take the opener of a crucial three-game midweek series in the Garden State. New Britain has now won five consecutive game overall and have been victorious in 11 of their last 16 matchups on the road after as close get to within three games of Somerset for first place in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings while notching their fourth shutout in the process.

New Britain starting pitcher Kyle Simon registered a no-decision in the contest after firing five and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball on just five hits allowed, walking two and striking out four while hitting one batter. Somerset starting pitcher Duane Below also did not factor in the game’s final outcome after not allowing a run in six and two-thirds innings pitched on four hits given up, walking two and striking out four while tossing a wild pitch.

The pitcher’s duel was scoreless as the battle of the bullpens moved to the top half of the eighth inning, and with one man down Deibinson Romero launched an absolute bomb of a solo home run to left field off losing pitcher Logan Kensing (2-2), a big fly that cleared the second wall of advertising and completely went out of TD Bank Ballpark, Romero’s eighth home run and thirty-fifth run batted in of the campaign, both tops on the ballclub. The relief duo of winning pitcher Josh Outman (2-1) and Evan Scribner did the rest, as Outman allowed just one base runner by way of an error in two and one-third innings on the bump, striking out a pair in registering his longest outing of the year. Scribner pitched a clean bottom half of the ninth inning, striking out one for his team-best eighth save of the season. Romero led the way for New Britain with three hits, his team-high 18th multi-hit game in 2018 and sixth of the three hit variety. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
