Playing the first of back-to-back games against the Brockton Rox, the New Britain Bees picked up a 9-0 win on Saturday evening at New Britain Stadium to move to 16-12 on the year.
Dylan Scudder (Eastern CT State/West Simsbury, CT) was the star on the mound for the Bees. The right hander got the win going six innings allowing no runs and six hits while striking out three.
After trading zeros for the first few innings, the Bees struck in the bottom of the fourth as Garrett Scavelli (Molloy/Franklin Square, NY) lined a double and Gavin Greger (UConn/Bristol, CT) belted a two-run home run to right center to make it 2-0.
The scoring continued in the fifth as Tyler Pettorini (Ohio State/Wooster, OH) smacked an RBI double to extend the lead to 3-0.
Scudder didn’t find himself in much trouble at any point with his only blemish being a bases loaded jam in the third, but he worked out of it with a strikeout.
New Britain broke it open in the bottom of the sixth when they plated four runs thanks to a bases loaded walk from Bryce Molinaro (St. John’s/Drums, PA) and a bases clearing double from Payten Wawruck (Fairfield/Amston, CT) to go up 7-0.
Brian Hart (Hofstra/Queens, NY) relieved Scudder and picked up a save going three innings with six strikeouts.
In the seventh inning, Scavelli struck again with an RBI single scoring Pettorini and Jimmy Keenan (St. John’s/White Plains, NY) crushed a triple off the base of the right field wall scoring Scavelli to make iit 9-0.
The top four hitters in the lineup had multi-hit games for the Bees and six different players recorded RBIs in the victory.
Scavelli’s 2-3 night raised his team high average to .467 and made it five straight multi-hit games.
Only two New Britain hitters struck out the whole game in one of the best performances all season at the plate.
The Bees are back in action tomorrow for another game against the Rox up in Brockton in the first of five straight on the road. The next home game at New Britain Stadium is July 1st when the Bees play host to the Pittsfield Suns. |
