Bees Use Early Lead to Secure Victory Over the NavigatorsNEW BRITAIN, C.T. -- The Bees bounced right back after last night’s tough loss to Worcester with six runs in the first two innings to defeat the North Shore Navigators, 6-1. The Bees comeback fell just short last night and they continued the hot hitting into tonight’s matchup. Afterwards, they were able to shut down the North Shore bats and pick up their 11th win of the season. The Bees scored early on in the bottom half of the first inning when Mike Caruso (Fairfield University) hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field and scored Zach Donahue (UConn) who tagged up from third base. The next batter, Noah Martinez (Central CT State University), was able to connect with a pitch and drive in another run for New Britain, scoring Danniel Rivera (Southern New Hampshire) and giving the Bees a 2-0 lead after the first inning. The Bees continued the damage in the second inning with Zach Donahue scoring again after a single from Danniel Rivera to extend the New Britain lead. A couple batters later, Mike Caruso brought in two runs this time with a double to left field, in which he was able to advance to third base by an error from North Shore’s Sean Lawlor (University of Maine). Lawlor tried throwing out Rivera going home but overthrew his catcher, Dylan January (Franklin Pierce), which allowed the advancement of the runners. The final run of the game again came from Noah Martinez with another single to score Mike Caruso from third. Moving to the seventh inning, the Navigators were able to score their only run off one of the two errors from New Britain tonight. The Bees started Josh Vincent (Eastern CT State University) who recorded his second win of the season and the Futures League pitcher of the night after going five innings and giving up no runs on just one hit, along with seven strikeouts. Tim Blaisdell (University of Hartford) came out of the bullpen and saved some arms for New Britain, pitching four innings and giving up just one run during that span. The Navigators started Nate Espelin (University of Dayton) who was banged up early, pitching only 1.2 innings and gave up six runs on six hits, striking out just one batter. Espelin recorded his second loss of the season. The Bees improve to 11-17 on the season, while the Navigators drop to 12-15. New Britain travels to Nashua tomorrow night to face the Silver Knights. The last time these two met on July 15, the Silver Knights won 5-4. First pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m. from Holman Stadium.
