Bees Close Out First Half By Taking Rubber Game From Ducks

Hamburger Notches Six Win And Eighth Quality Start

 

(New Britain, CT– July 5, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (33-30) defeated the Long Island Ducks (30-33) 4-1 at New Britain Stadium on Thursday evening to take the rubber game of a three-game midweek series in the Constitution State. New Britain closes out the First Half of the regular season schedule in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball winners of 18 of their last 24 games overall and 12 of their last 15 games at home in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (6-5) picked up the victory after allowing just one run on five hits in seven and two-thirds innings on the mound, walking two and striking out six, tallying his team-best eighth quality start of the campaign. Long Island starting pitcher Jake Fisher (3-4) was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits in four and one-third innings pitched, walking two and striking out five. Fisher had to leave the game with one out in the bottom half of the fifth inning after being struck in the back of the head by a line drive. 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Evan Scribner tossed a scoreless inning of relief in the top of the ninth for his 11th save of the season, tops on the ballclub.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the third, New Britain plated a pair of runs for a 2-1 advantage by way of a two-run single off the bat of Reid Brignac, scoring 2018 Liberty Division All-Star James Skelton after he reached base with a one-out base knock and 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez after he followed the Skelton single with a double. Leading 3-1, the Bees added an insurance run in the home half of the sixth when Skelton allowed 2018 Liberty Division All-Star Jamar Walton to cross the plate by way of a run-scoring single after Walton led off the frame with a base hit of his own. Skelton concluded the series with six hits in eight at bats, along with three walks, two runs batted in, a stolen base, and three runs scored. The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Friday, July 13th when they host the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to begin a three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
