Bees Sting Blue Crabs To Even Up Series

New Britain Tallies Best Record In Atlantic League In The Month Of June

(New Britain, CT– June 30, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (30-29) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (25-33) 7-2 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday evening to even up the three-game weekend series at a victory apiece. The win, coupled with a York Revolution day/night doubleheader sweep of the Somerset Patriots at PEOPLEs Bank Park now gets the Bees to within just a game and a half of first place in the First Half of the Liberty Division Standings.

New Britain starting pitcher Zach Stewart (6-3) picked up the victory after allowing just two runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings on the mound, walking two and striking out four. The right-hander records his sixth quality start in 11 outings and has now won six of his last seven starts overall. Southern Maryland starting pitcher Paul Clemens (1-4) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs (six earned runs) on ten hits across five innings pitched, walking three and striking out four.

New Britain took a 2-0 lead versus Clemens in the bottom half of the second inning when Brock Stassi and Jonathan Galvez each tallied run-scoring base knocks that enabled Jason Rogers and Brock Stassi to cross the plate after Rogers doubled to lead off the rally and Stassi singled right behind him. With the game tied at two, New Britain went ahead for good in the home half of the third scoring three runs for a 5-2 advantage, highlighted by a sacrifice fly off the bat of James Skelton and errors committed by Cory Vaughn and Frank Martinez. The home team completed the scoring on the night in the bottom of the fifth by way of a Matt Tuiasosopo RBI single and an Ozney Guillen sacrifice fly as the Bees were able to come away with their 15th win in their last 20 games played and their ninth victory in their last 11 games in front of the home faithful while also finishing with the best record in the Atlantic League in the month of June at 18-10. Stassi led the way for New Britain with three hits, marking the fifth time in just nine games in a Bees uniform that he has collected at least two or more hits in a single contest.
