Bees Hang On To Take Series Opener From Road Warriors

Three More Extra-Base Hits For Stassi

(New Britain, CT– June 22, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (25-27) defeated the Atlantic League’s Road Warriors (12-39) 3-2 at New Britain Stadium on Friday night in the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Constitution State. The Bees have now won 11 of their last 15 games overall while improving to 13-8 in the month of June.

New Britain starting pitcher Tyler Badamo (2-4) picked up the win after allowing just two runs on four hits (one home run) in seven innings pitched, striking out three. Road Warriors starting pitcher Raul Rivera-Alicea (1-6) suffered the loss after surrendering three runs (two earned runs) on six hits across five innings of work, walking two and striking out three. Evan Scribner shut the door in the top half of the ninth inning for his team-leading sixth save of the season, striking out two in the process.

New Britain took a quick 2-0 lead versus Rivera-Alicea in the home half of the first inning by way of a pair of run-scoring doubles produced from Reid Brignac and Brock Stassi. The Road Warriors cut the deficit in half at 2-1 in the top of the third when Isaac Wenrich launched his first home run of the season, a solo shot to right against Badamo. The Bees took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the frame when Stassi launched a booming RBI triple off the wall in right centerfield, scoring Jason Rogers, the third extra-base hit on the night for the left-hander and fifth hit in his first eight at-bats in a New Britain uniform. The visitors got to within 3-2 as they scratched a run across in the top of the seventh, but that was as close as they would get on the evening as the bullpen duo of Josh Outman and Scribner combined to record the final six outs as New Britain improved to 4-1 on their current seven-game homestand, with Stassi leading the way tallying three hits on the evening.
