Bees Register Saturday Night Walk-Off Against Patriots

Galvez The Hero In The Bottom Of The Ninth

(New Britain, CT– June 9, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (16-24) defeated the Somerset Patriots (23-15) 5-4 in walk-off fashion at New Britain Stadium on Saturday evening and have now taken two of the first three games of the four-game weekend series in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Tyler Badamo registered a no-decision after allowing four runs (two earned runs) on five hits in six and one-third innings pitched, walking and striking out two. Somerset starting pitcher Trevor Foss also did not factor in the game’s final outcome as he surrendered four runs (three earned runs) on eight hits across six innings of work, walking three and striking out six while tossing a wild pitch and hitting a batter.

New Britain took a 1-0 lead versus Foss in the home half of the third inning when Reid Brignac plated Darren Ford with a two-out RBI double after Ford reached by way of an infield single and an error committed by Somerset shortstop Alfredo Rodriguez. The Bees made it 2-0 in their favor in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Jamar Walton that allowed Jason Rogers to cross the plate after he was hit by a pitch to begin the frame. After the visitors tied the game at two, New Britain went back on top 4-2 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by an RBI single produced by James Skelton which scored Ozney Guillen after he advanced to second by way of a double. Skelton reached base twice on the night, extending his on-base streak to a season-high 14 consecutive games overall. Somerset fought their way back from a second-two-run deficit to knot the game up at four in the top of the seventh, taking the matchup with that same score to the bottom of the ninth. Brignac began the rally with a leadoff single, and advanced into scoring position with two men down. A Josh Thole intentional walk put runners at first and second for Jonathan Galvez, who sent the fans home with smiles on their faces as he drove in Brignac with the game-winning run by lacing an opposite-field base knock to right and the celebration was on as Galvez was mobbed by his teammates between first and second base as New Britain tallied their third walk-off victory of the season, making a winner out of reliever Evan Scribner (1-0) while handing the loss out of the bullpen to Dustin Antolin (1-3). Brignac and Galvez led the way for New Britain with three hits apiece. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
