Rogers Drives Home Three Despite The Loss

(New Britain, CT– June 5, 2018) – The York Revolution (17-15) defeated the New Britain Bees (14-22) 5-4 at New Britain Stadium on Tuesday night in the second of a three-game series in the Nutmeg State.

York hurler Ricardo Gomez (1-1) grabbed the victory for the Revs after coming into the game as a reliever, facing five batters without allowing a hit, walking two and striking out one. New Britain’s Elvin Ramirez (0-3) suffered the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth, giving up a lone hit in an inning and a third on the mound. Junior Rincon tallied his 7^th save of the season with a scoreless bottom half of the ninth inning.

The Bees took a 1-0 lead versus York starter Pat McCoy in the bottom of the first inning on a Jason Rogers sacrifice fly that plated leadoff batter Darren Ford. New Britain starting pitcher Zach Stewart started the game red hot, retiring the first 10 batters he faced and putting the Revs offense on a standstill. In the home half of the third inning, and RBI single from Deibinson Romero brought across Vinny Siena, followed by a two-run base knock by Rogers two batters later to expand the lead, 4-0. In the top of the fourth frame, York finally got on the board with a RBI base hit from Welington Dotel that plated Rubi Silva. Stewart gave up three more hits in the top of the fifth, with two more York baserunners coming across by way of another base hit from Silva to trim the New Britain’s lead to 4-3. Both teams would trade scoreless innings until the top of the eighth, when Bees lefty reliever Josh Outman gave up a double off the right field wall to Michael Burgess, scoring Welington Dotel, who had been walked in the previous at bat. The Bees put runners on the corners in the bottom of the eighth, but Gomez struck out Jonathan Galvez swinging to retire the side and keep the game knotted up at 4. In the top of the ninth, Ramirez gave up two costly hits to Travis Witherspoon and Silva, who capitalized on his three RBI night with the go-ahead single. James Skelton came on as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the final frame and slapped a single into right center field, but Rincon closed the deal for the visitors, forcing fly ball outs to both Ford and Romero.
