Six Run First Matches Largest Single Inning Run Production
(New Britain, CT– May 26, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (10-17) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (17-10) 8-3 at New Britain Stadium Saturday evening on Military Appreciation Night in the Hardware City.
New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (2-2) picked up the victory with his first quality start of 2018, allowing just two runs on seven hits in six innings pitched while striking out four and tossing a wild pitch. Sugar Land starting pitcher Matt Sergey (1-2) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs on nine hits (one home run) across five innings on the mound, walking one and striking out four.
New Britain went to work right away against Sergey in the home half of the first inning with six consecutive one-out hits that led to six runs and an immediate 6-0 advantage, highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of Jason Rogers that plated Deibinson Romero, a two-run single from Matt Tuiasosopo that allowed Reid Brignac and Jason Rogers to cross the plate, a two-run triple to the opposite-field in left produced by Ozney Guillen that scored Tuiasosopo and Jamar Walton, and a run-scoring groundout by James Skelton that scored Guillen. The six-run outburst matches the most runs scored by New Britain in a single inning on the young campaign. The Bees made it 7-2 in their favor in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run to left from Tuiasosopo, his first roundtripper in a New Britain uniform. The power surge continued in the bottom of the eighth inning when Jonathan Galvez launched a solo blast to left, his first big fly in a Hardware City jersey. The run support was more than enough for Lara, who won his second consecutive start this week. Rogers, Tuiasosopo, and Galvez led the way for the Bees with two hits each.
