Ceciliani Breaks Out With Three Hit Afternoon
(Sugar Land, TX– April 29, 2018) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (3-0) defeated the New Britain Bees (0-3) 4-0 at Constellation Field in the third of a six-game season opening series for both ballclubs.
New Britain starting pitcher Zach Stewart (0-1) was tagged with the loss, giving up two runs on three hits across five innings on the mound, walking four and striking out one. Sugar Land starting pitcher Brett Marshall was handed a no-decision after allowing just two hits in four scoreless innings, walking three while striking out five on top of hitting a batter and tossing a wild pitch. Konner Wade (1-0) was credited for the win out of the Skeeters bullpen after not allowing a run on one hit issued, striking out one.
Sugar Land opened up the scoring in the home half of the second inning by plating a pair of runs against Stewart for the early 2-0 cushion on a run-scoring single off the bat of Albert Cordero and a bases-loaded walk drawn by Alvaro Rondon. Already leading 3-0, the Skeeters added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh when Barrett Barnes plated Ryan Jackson with a sacrifice fly after Jackson led off the frame with a double. The four-run advantage was more than enough for the Sugar Land pitching staff as they handed New Britain their first shutout on the 2018 campaign while limiting them to just six hits overall. Darrell Ceciliani was the offensive spark for the Bees tallying three hits on the afternoon while reaching base in all four plate appearances. Photo provided courtesy of Megan Murnane.
