Three Hits And Runs Batted In For Rademacher
(Central Islip, NY – July 23, 2019) – The New Britain Bees (3-7, 38-41) defeated the Long Island Ducks (5-5, 48-32) 6-3 at Bethpage Ballpark on Tuesday night in the opener of a four-game midweek series between Liberty Division rivals.
New Britain starting pitcher Cory Riordan (4-4) picked up the victory after allowing two runs on two hits (two home runs) in five innings pitched, walking and striking out one while retiring 15 of the final 18 batters he faced. Long Island starting pitcher Seth Simmons (5-6) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned runs) on ten hits across six and one-third innings on the mound, walking three while striking out seven and tossing a wild pitch. Jose Rosario closed the ballgame out for his fifth save of the season.
New Britain took a 1-0 advantage just two batters into the matchup courtesy of a run-scoring three base hit all the way to the wall in right centerfield off the bat of Zach Collier that allowed Darren Ford to cross the plate after he gave the keynote in the contest by lacing a clean single. The next batter was Bijan Rademacher, and he drove in Collier with a groundout to the right side of the infield. Long Island tied the game at two in the home half of the second frame by way of back-to-back solo home runs to left by David Washington and D’Arby Myers. The Bees answered right back the next half inning to jump out in front 3-2 as Rademacher plated Ford with an RBI base knock after Ford began the rally with yet another leadoff single. The visitors increased their advantage to 5-2 in the sixth on a pair of errors committed by leftfielder Ezequiel Carrera and second baseman L.J. Mazzilli. Myers cut the deficit to 5-3 with an infield single in the last of the seventh, but that was as close as the Flock would get on this evening as the relief duo of Tyler Danish and Rosario retired all six batters they faced to close the game out for the boys from the Hardware City, while Rademacher put the icing on the cake in the ninth with a solo blast to right for his 9th roundtripper of the season which gave the game its final score of 6-3. Rademacher led the way offensively with three of New Britain’s 13 hits en route to the victory as seven batters in the Bees lineup had at least one hit. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
