Skeeters Continue Push For The Playoffs With Victory Over Bees

Rogers Extends Hitting Streak

(New Britain, CT – July 5, 2019) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (35-34) defeated the New Britain Bees (34-34) 10-5 at New Britain Stadium on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Constitution State.

New Britain starting pitcher Jed Bradley (3-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs (five earned runs) on 11 hits in four and-one thirds innings pitched, walking two and striking out four. Sugar Land starting pitcher Dallas Beeler (6-3) picked up the win, allowing one run on seven hits (one home run) across six innings on the mound, walking four, striking out two, and hitting a batter.

Down 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bees were finally able to crack the scoreboard versus Beeler thanks to a solo home run to right field off the bat of Bijan Rademacher with two men down, his eighth roundtripper of the season. New Britain got to within 8-4 in the home half of the seventh frame courtesy of a two-run double produced by Jason Rogers that plated Rademacher and Alejandro De Aza after they reached base by way of a pair of consecutive free passes with one out, while 2019 Liberty Division All-Star Jonathan Galvez followed the lead of Rogers by smacking an RBI double of his own into the gap in right centerfield. The two-bagger by Rogers extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 consecutive games overall and is also currently the longest active hit-streak on the ballclub. The boys from the Hardware City were looking to mount a miraculous comeback in the last of the ninth but were only able to push across one run to give the game its final score of 10-5 when De Aza doubled home Rademacher against reliever Matt Ramsey, but the right-hander was able to put an end to a potential big rally but retiring the next three batters in succession to keep the reigning Atlantic League of Professional baseball Champions one game ahead of the York Revolution (33-34) for the top spot in the First Half of the Freedom Division Standings.
