Bees Register Saturday Night Shutout Of Skeeters

Seven Dominating Innings By Friedrich, Galvez And Motter Go Deep

(New Britain, CT – June 22, 2019) – The New Britain Bees (29-26) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (31-26) 3-0 at New Britain Stadium on Saturday evening and have now taken the first two games of a three-game weekend series in the Blue Law State as the Bees hold an opponent off the scoreboard in a contest for the third time on the year.

New Britain starting pitcher Christian Friedrich (5-1) picked up the win after tossing seven scoreless innings on three hits allowed, walking one while striking out six and committing a balk. Sugar Land starting pitcher Troy Scribner (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits (two home runs) across six innings on the mound, walking three and striking out seven. Jim Fuller retired all three batters he faced in the top half of the ninth inning, striking out a pair to notch his team-leading sixth save of the season.

New Britain jumped out in front 1-0 in the bottom of the second when Jonathan Galvez belted a two-out solo home run over the left field wall against Scribner for his 11th four-bagger on the campaign, tying him with Alexi Amarista for the club lead. The Bees used the long ball once again in the home half of the sixth to go ahead 3-0, highlighted by a Taylor Motter solo tater to left, his fifth roundtripper overall and second in as many nights versus Skeeters pitching as the boys from the Hardware City tallied their 15th multi-home run game in 2019 and have now “touched them all” a season-high six consecutive games overall. The run support was more than enough for Friedrich and his supporting cast of Jose Rosario and Fuller, as Friedrich has now collected five wins on the year and six quality starts, including four quality starts in a row, all tops on the ballclub. New Britain pitchers in the two games played in the series against the reigning Atlantic League of Professional Champions have given up just one run on nine hits in eighteen innings on the bump (0.50 ERA), along with 19 punchouts. Jason Rogers and Bijan Rademacher led the way offensively with two hits apiece. Photo provided courtesy of Meaghan O’Donoghue.
