Lara Notches Third Quality Start
(Sugar Land, TX – June 15, 2019) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (29-21) defeated the New Britain Bees (25-23) 4-0 at Constellation Field on Saturday night to even up the four-game series at a victory apiece as the boys from the Hardware City are held off the scoreboard in a ballgame for the fifth time this season.
New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (4-4) suffered the loss after allowing four runs (two earned runs) on eight hits in six innings on the mound while striking out four in recording his third quality start of the campaign. Sugar Land starting pitcher Dallas Beeler (4-2) tallied the win by firing seven scoreless frames on just two hits allowed, walking two along with six strikeouts and one hit by pitch. Felipe Paulino erased all five batters faced over an inning and a third in relief to pick up his 14th save, second most overall in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.
Sugar Land jumped out in front 2-0 against Lara in the bottom half of the first inning thanks to run-scoring singles produced by Cody Stanley and Willy Taveras that plated Jared Mitchell and Juan Silverio after they each reached base to begin the rally on back to back fielding errors committed by first baseman Jason Rogers and third baseman Taylor Motter, with the latter hit by Taveras coming with two men down. The Skeeters doubled their lead to 4-0 in the middle of the second on RBI singles from Silverio and Denis Phips that scored Mitchell and Silverio who doubled and singled respectively during the rally. New Britain looked to mount a comeback in the top of the eighth as they loaded the bases with only one away courtesy of an Ozzie Martinez free pass sandwiched between base hits from Alexi Amarista and Alejandro De Aza, but when Sugar Land skipper Pete Incaviglia made the call to his closer Paulino, he answered the bell by striking out Rogers looking and inducing Bijan Rademacher to fly out to Anthony Giansanti in right field, ending the threat as well as any hope for a Bees comeback. Amarista, De Aza, Rogers, and Jared James each had one of the four total hits on the evening for New Britain. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
