Quality Start For Lara, Moore’s Clutch Hit Clears The Bases
(High Point, NC – May 31, 2019) – The New Britain Bees (19-13) defeated the High Point Rockers (19-15) 8-6 at BB&T Point on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Tar Heel State. The Bees close out the month of May with a record of 18-10 and have now won ten consecutive games and 12 of their last 13 contests overall.
New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (4-1) picked up the victory after allowing just two runs on five hits in six innings pitched, walking one and striking out two as the right-hander takes over the club lead in wins while also registering his second quality start of the campaign. High Point starting pitcher Ryan Williams tallied a no-decision in the ballgame after giving up one run five hits in three innings of work, walking and striking out three. Jim Fuller retired all three batters he faced in the bottom half of the ninth inning, striking out a pair to record his team-leading third save of the season.
Down 2-1 in the top half of the fourth inning, New Britain went back out in front for the second time on the night 3-2 thanks to an RBI base knock off the bat of Ozzie Martinez that plated Logan Moore with the tying-run after he began the rally with a leadoff walk and a run-scoring fielder’s choice produced by Jason Rogers that enabled Alexi Amarista to cross the plate with all of the production coming at the hands of losing pitcher Chase Huchingson (0-1). The visitors got some much needed insurance in the top of the seventh as they scored four more times to open up a commanding 7-2 advantage, with the big blow coming from Moore as the Bees backstop cleared the bases with an opposite-field three-run double into the gap in left center that drove in Rogers, Taylor Motter, and Jared James with James also contributing earlier in the frame with an RBI single of his own right back through the originator. Rogers gave the game its final score of 8-6 in the top of the eighth when he laced a clean run-scoring base knock to center that scored Amarista as the boys from the Hardware City won their sixth straight matchup against the Rockers after losing the inaugural game played between these two franchises 2-0 in North Carolina back on May 6th.
