Rockers Shutout Bees On A Historic Night In North Carolina

Quality Start For Marzi, Galvez Extends Hitting Streak

(High Point, NC– May 6, 2019) – The High Point Rockers (6-5) defeated the New Britain Bees (2-7) 2-0 on Monday night in the opener of a three-game series in the Tar Heel State. The matchup was the first ever in franchise history between Liberty Division foes.

New Britain Starting Pitcher Anthony Marzi registered a no-decision in the contest despite firing six scoreless innings on just five hits allowed, walking two and striking out eight. High Pont starting pitcher Tyler Herron also did not factor in the game’s final outcome after tossing six innings without allowing a run on seven hits, walking one and striking out three.

With nothing but goose eggs on the scoreboard, the Rockers were finally able to break through versus losing pitcher Sammy Gervacio (0-2). After the fans stretched out their arms and legs in the home half of the seventh. After Quincy Latimore reached by way of a leadoff walk, Michael Baca singled, and Latimore hustled all the way to third base. Tyler Ladendorf reached with a free pass of his own and the home team loaded the bases with nobody out. Myles Schroder followed and bounced into a 4-4-3 double play, enabling Latimore to cross the plate with the game’s first run. Looking for insurance, that is exactly what the Rockers got in the bottom of the eighth when Breland Almadova reached by way of a run-scoring fielder’s choice that plated Stephen Cardullo, giving the game its final score of 2-0. The beneficiary of the runs was reliever Ashur Tolliver (2-0) as he was able to come away with the victory while Trevor Frank shut the door in the top half of the ninth inning for his third save of the season. Jonathan Galvez singled in his first at bat in the top of the second frame, extending his hitting streak to a team-best six consecutive games.
