De Leon And Fry Combine To Erase 11 Consecutive Batters In Relief
(York, PA– May 2, 2019) – The York Revolution (2-4) defeated the New Britain Bes (2-4) 5-0 at PEOPLEs Bank Park on Thursday afternoon to take the rubber game of a three-game midweek series in the Keystone State. The Bees finish their season-opening six-game, two-state road trip with an overall record of 2-4.
New Britain Starting Pitcher Zach Stewart (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering five runs (four earned runs) on seven hits in four inning pitched, walking five and striking out one. York starting pitcher Matthew Grimes (1-1) picked up the victory with five scoreless innings of work on seven hits allowed, walking one while striking out three and tossing a wild pitch.
York went out in front 1-0 versus Stewart in the home half of the first inning when Henry Castillo plated J.P. Sportman with an RBI double after Sportman left off the frame with a single. The Revolution jumped ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the second as they sent eight batters to the plate, scoring three runs on four hits, highlighted by a run-scoring base knock from Sportman and a two-run single off the bat of Melky Mesa. The home team put the finishing touches on the scoring in the third frame thanks to a sacrifice fly produced by Ryan Dent which gave the game its final score of 5-0. New Britain was never able to capitalize on a very frustrating offensive day at the plate despite tallying 11 hits in the ballgame as they were shutout for the first time on the young 2019 campaign. The bullpen duo of Christopher De Leon and Brandon Fry were dominant in relief despite the loss, firing four scoreless innings while giving up just one hit and striking out five, including retiring the final 11 Revolution hitters they faced. Darren Ford led the way for the Bees with a three-hit performance, and Deibinson Romero extended his on-base streak to a team-best six straight contests. Photo provided courtesy of Joe Doll.
