Road Warriors Stymie Bees Offense En Route To The Victory

Rosa Extends Hitting And On-Base Streaks

(New Britain, CT– August 22, 2018) – The Atlantic League’s Road Warriors (8-33, 25-79) defeated the New Britain Bees (20-20, 53-50) 8-1 at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday evening in the third of a four-game series in the Nutmeg State as the visitors snapped a nine-game losing streak in the process.

New Britain starting pitcher Matt Quintana (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs on six hits (one home run) in just three innings pitched, walking two while striking out four and tossing a pair of wild pitches. Road Warriors starting pitcher Kelvin Villa (5-10) earned the win, allowing just one run on three hits in six innings on the mound, walking five, striking out three and hitting two batters.

The Road Warriors took an immediate 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning versus Quintana by way of run-scoring singles produced by Jorge Fernandez-Diaz, Jose Julio-Ruiz, and Edwin Gomez, and went out in front 4-0 in the top of the third on a solo home run to right centerfield off the bat of Diaz, his 11th big fly of the season. The Bees cut the deficit to 4-1 against Villa in the home half of the third when Jovan Rosa plated Darren Ford with an RBI base knock after Ford drew a free pass with one man down. The single for Rosa extended his hitting-streak to a team-high 13 consecutive games overall (the longest active hit streak on the ballclub) while also now having reached base safely in 21 straight contests, matching Jason Rogers for the best mark on the 2018 campaign. New Britain would not get any closer on this frustrating offensive night at the plate as the Road Warriors tacked on a run in the sixth for a 4-1 cushion and then sent eight batters to the plate in the top of the ninth, scoring three more runs to bust everything wide open and give the game its final score of 8-1 as the Bees were held to just three hits in the contest. Rosa, Jonathan Galvez, and Ryan Wagner each tallied one hit in the defeat. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
