Nine-Run Seventh Inning Lifts Patriots Over Bees

Stassi Extends On-Base Streak

(Bridgewater Township, NJ– August 3, 2018) – The Somerset Patriots (17-8, 52-36) defeated the New Britain Bees (12-11, 45-41) 9-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday evening to even up the four-game series at a victory apiece.

New Britain starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken registered a no-decision despite five scoreless innings on just two hits allowed and three strikeouts. Somerset starting pitcher Stephen Perakslis also did not factor in the game’s final outcome after allowing two runs on two hits in five innings pitched, walking two while striking out six and hitting a batter.

New Britain took a 2-0 lead against Perakslis in the top half of the fourth inning when Jovan Rosa was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that allowed Brock Stassi to cross the plate after he drew a walk with one man down, extending his on-base streak to a season-high 13 consecutive games overall. Jamar Walton followed the Rosa at bat and hustled down the line to reach first base by way of an RBI fielder’s choice, scoring Jason Rogers who singled earlier in the frame to extend his hitting streak to five straight contests. The Bees held the two-run advantage all the way into the home half of the seventh inning before Somerset sent 15 batters to the plate after the fans stretched out their arms and legs, scoring nine unanswered runs on eight hits in the process to give the game its final score of 9-2, making a winner out of Dustin Molleken (2-1) while handing Chris Reed (0-1) the loss as the boys from the Hardware City dropped to 1-1 on their seven-game road trip. Five different players each had one hit on the night for New Britain. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
