Bees Pound Out 16 Hits To Take Second Straight From Barnstormers

Lara Wins Seventh Game, Romero Tallies Five Base Knocks

(Lancaster, PA– July 28, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (9-8, 42-38) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (6-10, 44-35) 9-3 at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Saturday night and have now taken the first two games of a three-game weekend series in the Keystone State.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (7-4) earned the win after allowing just two runs on seven hits across five and one-third innings pitched, striking out three. The two-time Liberty Division All-Star now leads the ballclub in victories. Lancaster starting pitcher Brooks Hall (7-3) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on eight hits in five innings of work, walking one and striking out three while tossing a wild pitch and hitting a pair of batters.

New Britain took a 2-0 lead versus Hall in the top half of the fourth inning by way of an RBI base knock off the bat of Jamar Walton and a run-scoring groundout produced by Jonathan Galvez. The visitors made it 3-0 in their favor in the top of the fifth frame as Deibinson Romero plated Darren Ford with an RBI single with two men down after Ford pushed a drag bunt single to the right side of the infield two batters prior. The Bees batted around in the top of the sixth to break the game open and take a commanding 7-0 advantage, highlighted by Ryan Wagner getting hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, a run-scoring groundout from Vince Conde, and back-to-back RBI base knocks by Ford and Brock Stassi. New Britain put the finishing touches on a big offensive evening in the top of the eighth when Stassi launched a two-run home run to right field to open up a 9-2 cushion, giving the left-hander his 13th multi-hit game and seventh multi-RBI performance on the 2018 campaign. Romero led the 16 hit attack for the Bees with the first five-hit performance by a New Britain batter on the season. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
