Skeeters Flex Their Muscles Early On In Victory Over Bees

Multi-Hit Games For Rogers And Guillen

(New Britain, CT– July 25, 2018) – The Sugar Land Skeeters (10-5, 51-27) defeated the New Britain Bees (7-7, 40-37) 7-0 at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to even up the three-game midweek series at a victory apiece. New Britain is shutout in a ballgame for the ninth time this season and third time in their last seven overall contests played.

New Britain starting pitcher Mark Hamburger (6-6) was tagged with the loss after surrendering seven runs (five earned runs) on seven hits (two home runs) in four innings pitched, walking one and striking out four. Sugar Land starting pitcher Konner Wade (6-2) picked up the win by firing six scoreless innings on seven hits allowed, striking out two.

Sugar Land went to work early and often versus Hamburger in the top half of the first inning, scoring four runs on four hits, highlighted by a leadoff solo home run off the scoreboard in left centerfield by Barrett Barnes on the fifth pitch of the day thrown by Hamburger, an RBI single from Courtney Hawkins, and a two-run home run to straightaway centerfield from Matt Chavez. The visitors opened up a 7-0 advantage in the top of the fourth, with the big blow coming by way of an RBI double from Juan Silverio that allowed Albert Cordero to cross the plate after he tripled off the wall in right centerfield to lead off the three-run rally. The rest of the afternoon belonged to the Sugar Land pitching staff, as the trio of Wade, Alex Wimmers, and Mark Haynes held the New Britain offense in check all game long. Jason Rogers and Ozney Guillen led the way for the boys from the Hardware City with a pair of hits each as Rogers had two doubles and Guillen single twice, giving Rogers his 18th multi-hit game of the campaign with Guillen having now had two or more hits in a single contest five times in total on the season. Rogers is currently tied for fourth in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball in two-base hits with 17. Photo provided courtesy of the New Britain Bees.
