Bees Sting Road Warriors To Take Rubber Game Of Series

Ford And Romero Each Go Yard, Lara Earns Sixth Win

(New Britain, CT– July 22, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (6-6, 39-36) defeated the Atlantic League’s Road Warriors (1-12, 18-58) 14-1 at New Britain Stadium on Sunday evening to take the rubber game of a three-game weekend series in the Constitution State. The contest went final after six and a half innings of play due to rain.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (6-4) picked up the win after allowing just one run on four hits over five and two-thirds innings on the mound, walking one and striking out six. The 2018 Liberty Division All-Star is now tied with Mark Hamburger, Kyle Simon, and Zach Stewart for the team-lead in victories. Road Warriors starting pitcher Raul Rivera-Alicea (2-10) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on six hits (two home runs) across five innings pitched, walking two while striking out three.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom half of the fifth inning, the Bees batted around and scored six runs in the process to take their first lead of the night at 6-1. Jamar Walton and Jonathan Galvez began the rally with back-to-back walks. Ozney Guillen drove home Walton with a run-scoring base knock and Ryan Wagner followed by plating Galvez with an RBI single. Two batters later, Darren Ford launched a three-run home run to left centerfield, his sixth roundtripper of the campaign. Deibinson Romero put the capper on the big frame with a solo home run to left centerfield, his 11th big fly and 43rd rib eye steak, both tops on the ballclub. In the home half of the sixth, New Britain sent 12 more men to the plate and scored eight runs to take a commanding 14-1 advantage, highlighted by run-scoring singles from Walton, Galvez, and Vinny Siena, and consecutive two-run doubles produced by Jovan Rosa and Romero as the boys from the Hardware City pounded out 13 more hits to lift the Bees to their 15th win in their last 21 games at home. Wagner led the way for New Britain with three hits on the evening, the first three-hit game in a New Britain uniform for the Bees backstop and his third multi-hit performance in nine games played overall.
