Bees Begin Homestand With Victory Over Road Warriors

Rosa Returns To The Hardware City And Tallies Two Hits And Three Runs Batted In

(New Britain, CT– July 20, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (5-5, 38-35) defeated the Atlantic League’s Road Warriors (0-11, 17-57) 9-5 at New Britain Stadium on Friday evening in the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Josh Outman (3-3) picked up the victory after allowing three runs on six hits across six innings on the mound while striking out five and hitting a batter in registering his first quality start of the season. Road Warriors starting pitcher Kelvin Villa (2-7) was tagged with the loss, surrendering seven runs on ten hits (one home run) over four and one-third innings of work, walking five and striking out two.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom half of the fourth inning, the Bees went to work and scored two runs for a 4-3 lead by way of an RBI single off the bat of Vince Conde that plated Jamar Walton after he led off the frame with a double and a run-scoring base knock from Jovan Rosa that allowed Conde to cross the plate as Rosa returned to his old stomping grounds in grand fashion. In the home half of the fifth New Britain batted around and scored five runs to open up a 9-3 advantage. With one man down, Jonathan Galvez launched a solo home run to left field, his sixth roundtripper of the campaign. Three batters later, Conde drove in Walton with a sacrifice fly. Following a Darren Ford free pass, Brock Stassi completed a three-hit, three RBI night when he drove in Ryan Wagner with a run-scoring base knock. Rosa put the capper on the big outburst with a double that scored Ford and Stassi as the home team totaled 15 hits en route to the victory, marking the 22nd time this year in which they have tallied ten or more hits in a single contest. Stassi and Walton each had three hits for New Britain as they won for the 23rd time in their last 34 games played and the 14th time in their last 19 games played before the home faithful.
