(New Britain, Conn., February 22, 2017) New Britain Bees team officials today announced that the team has re-signed left-handed pitcher Anthony Marzi for the 2017 season. Marzi becomes the first left-handed pitcher for New Britain this season, and the first Connecticut native on the 2017 roster.
“I’m incredibly excited to be back with the Bees in 2017,” said Marzi. “It’s a great experience to play so close to home. New Britain baseball has been an important part of my life since I was young, and I’m thrilled to continue my professional career here.”

A native of Berlin, CT and graduate of Berlin High School, Marzi enters his third professional season and second with the Bees. Signed as a free agent by New Britain during 2016 Spring Training, Marzi pitched 77 1/3 innings last season, registering five wins and 49 strikeouts, and saw time both as a starter and as a reliever.  The former UConn Baseball captain started his career in the New York Yankees organization, pitching in six games for the Gulf Coast Yankees in 2015.
In his professional career, Marzi has appeared in 42 games, including four starts, and has a career era of 2.76. The 6’1”, 205 lbs. pitcher holds the Bees record for consecutive scoreless innings pitched at 23.1, besting former Bees lefty and current Minnesota Twins farmhand Nick Greenwood’s record of 19.1 innings last season.
“Anthony was an important part of our pitching staff last season, and I expect him to play a major role this season,” said Bees Manager Stan Cliburn. “It’s great to have a local talent on the roster, and even better when that local talent can pitch consistent, meaningful innings like Anthony can.”
