Three Bees Named To All-FCBL Second Team

(New Britain, Conn., September 9th, 2020) – Following the milestone 10th season of Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) action throughout New England, the top players from all six teams were recognized on the 2020 All-FCBL Teams as announced on Tuesday. Commissioner Joe Paolucci unveiled the All-FCBL First and Second Teams. Both squads include a position player at each position on the field, a designated hitter, two utility players and a four- or five-man pitching staff.

While Bees First Baseman/Designated Hitter Noah Martinez (Central Connecticut State) was honored on the First Team, New Britain featured three Bees on the All-FCBL Second team. Catcher Michael Caruso (Fairfield), Pitcher Drew Mead (Marymount), and Infielder Danniel Rivera (Southern New Hampshire) were the recipients of these honors.

Both on and off the field, Bees Catcher Michael Caruso was outstanding all Summer Long. The Fairfield Stag sported an on base percentage of .389 while having 18 runs batted in from the offensive side of the plate. On defense he caught 185 innings for the Bees while recording 216 putouts, and having 0 errors. After the season was over the accolades kept coming for Caruso as he was named the Bees winner of the Adam Keenan Award, an award that is bestowed upon the player who exemplifies the outstanding attitude, character and sportsmanship that is synonymous with Adam Keenan’s legacy.

Marymount’s Drew Mead was the unquestioned lead man in New Britain’s rotation throughout this summer, pitching to a 2-1 record and 2.25 earned run average over six appearances, five of which have been starts. The Bushkill, Pa., native allowed eight earned runs and held the rest of the league to a .216 average over his 32 innings of work. The workhorse dealt a pair of seven-inning starts against North Shore and Westfield, striking out 10 against the former team.

New Britain’s own Danniel Rivera had a tremendous Summer playing in front of his hometown fans, and was a consistent bat in the lineup all year long. The Southern New Hampshire Sophomore batted .298 with four home runs 18 runs batted in, and an on base percentage of .400 all while securing both spots of the Bees Middle Infield.
