Bees Add Two, Including Former Big League Pitcher

(New Britain, Conn., June 26, 2018) –The New Britain Bees today announced the signings of pitcher Adam Loewen and infielder Vicente Conde.

“These two players are important additions as we are making our stretch run for the first half,” says Bees General Manager Brad Smith. “Adam is another big league arm that will give us valuable innings out of our bullpen, while Vicente adds solid defense up the middle and a good approach at the plate.”

Adam Loewen comes to New Britain for his Atlantic League debut during his 16th year of professional baseball. Before joining the Bees, the former Major League began the 2018 campaign with Triple-A Round Rock of the Texas Rangers organization. In five appearances, the posted a 1.80 ERA with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.

The 34-year-old was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the first round (fourth overall) of the 2002 MLB amateur draft. He spent four years in the minor leagues with the Orioles before making his Major League debut with them in 2006 at the age of 22. The lefthander would spend three years in the big leagues with Baltimore as a pitcher before heading over to Toronto in pursuit to be a position player. From 2009-13 he spent time with Toronto and the New York Mets as a batter during this time, reaching the Majors in 2010 with the Blue Jays. He would return to the mound in 2014 with the Philadelphia Phillies, making the big leagues the following season. His last year in the Majors was with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2016. In 63 career Major League appearances (29 starts) as a pitcher, he owns a 10-8 record with a 5.85 ERA and 159 strikeouts in 189.1 innings pitched.

In 232 career minor league games (87 starts), Adam has collected a 39-32 record with a 3.41 ERA and 625 strikeouts in 614.1 innings pitched.

Vicente Conde joins the Bees for his first season in the Atlantic League during his fifth of professional baseball. Before heading to New Britain, he spent time with Double-A Trenton of the New York Yankees organization during the 2018 campaign, appearing in 24 games.

The 24-year-oldwas drafted by the Yankees in the ninth round of the 2014 MLB amateur draft out of Vanderbilt University. He spent his entire minor league career with the Yankees organization, reaching as high at the Double-A level.

In 321 career minor league games, Conde owns a .206 batting average with 12 home runs, 56 doubles, 105 RBI, and 133 runs scored.
