Patriots Shutout Bees To Even Up Series

Brignac Collects 11th Multi-Hit Game Of The Season

 

(Bridgewater Township, NJ– June 27, 2018) – The Somerset Patriots (31-23) defeated the New Britain Bees (28-28)  5-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night to even up the three-game midweek series at a victory apiece. The Patriots open up a four-game lead on the Bees in the first half of the Liberty Division Standings with seven games remaining for the boys from the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Rainy Lara (3-3) was tagged with the loss after surrendering four runs (one earned run) on six hits (one home run) across five innings on the mound, walking two and striking out five. Somerset starting pitcher Kyle Davies (1-3) picked up the win after firing six scoreless innings on six hits allowed, walking two and striking out four.

Somerset batted around versus Lara in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a leadoff solo home run to right field off the bat of Julio Borbon on the third pitch of the evening thrown by Lara. Four batters later in his first at bat in a Somerset uniform, Jermaine Curtis plated Endy Chavez by way of a sacrifice fly. The rally concluded with a pair of run-scoring singles produced by Craig Massey and Mike Fransoso. The rest of the night belonged to Davies and the relief trio of Mike Antonini, Dustin Antolin, and Nate Roe, as they wreaked havoc on the New Britain offense and made the big pitches when they needed to, with the Bees concluding the night stranding ten runners on base while totaling just seven hits as New Britain was held off the scoreboard in a ballgame for the sixth time this season. The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Friday, June 29th when they welcome in the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to the Hardware City for a three-game weekend series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
