Patriots Shutout Bees In Series Opener

Galvez And Walton Extend Hitting Streaks

 

(Bridgewater, NJ– June 15, 2018) – The Somerset Patriots (26-18) defeated the New Britain Bees (20-25) 7-0 at TD Bank Ballpark on Friday night in the opener of a three-game weekend series in the Garden State. New Britain is held off of the scoreboard in a ballgame for the fifth time this season.

New Britain starting pitcher Andy Van Hekken (1-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits in five and two-thirds innings pitched, walking one and striking out six. Somerset starting pitcher Trevor Foss (2-3) picked up the victory after firing seven scoreless innings on just four hits allowed, walking two and striking out three.

Somerset took a 1-0 lead versus Van Hekken in the home half of the fifth inning when Justin Pachioli tagged up and scored all the way from second base on a line drive into the gap in right centerfield off the bat of Julio Borbon that was caught on the dive by Ozney Guillen resulting in a sacrifice fly. The Patriots made it 5-0 in their favor in the bottom of the sixth on a pair of two-run doubles produced by Yovan Gonzalez and Borbon. The home team added a pair of insurance runs in the middle of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Gonzalez and an RBI base knock from Justin Trapp which gave the contest its final score of 7-0. Despite the loss, Jonathan Galvez and Jamar Walton each tallied a hit in the ballgame, extending their hitting streaks to ren consecutive games overall, the longest active streak on the team. The Bees return to New Britain Stadium on Tuesday, June 19th when they welcome in the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs to the Hardware City for a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 P.M.
