Bees Shutout Road Warriors To Take Rubber Game Of Series

Eight Scoreless Innings From Stewart, Delcarmen Closes Out Playing Career In Style

(New Britain, CT– May 31, 2018) – The New Britain Bees (12-19) defeated the Atlantic League’s Road Warriors (8-23) 6-0 at New Britain Stadium on Thursday night to take the rubber game of a three-game set in the Hardware City.

New Britain starting pitcher Zach Stewart (2-3) picked up the win after firing eight scoreless innings on just three hits allowed, walking three and striking out two. Road Warriors starting pitcher Raul Rivera-Alicea (1-4) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on ten hits (one home run) over five and two-thirds innings pitched, walking three and striking out five while tossing a wild pitch.

New Britain took a 3-0 lead in the home half of the second inning against Rivera-Alicea when Darren Ford launched a two-out, three-run home run to left field to put the home team ahead early. The Bees made it 5-0 in their favor in the bottom of the third when Matt Tuiasosopo plated Reid Brignac with a sacrifice fly after Brignac led off the frame with a base knock while Ozney Guillen drove home Jason Rogers by way of a double with Rogers also tallying a two-base hit of his own earlier in the rally. The boys from the Hardware City gave the game its final score of 6-0 in the bottom of the sixth when Deibinson Romero plated Vinny Siena with a sacrifice fly. The six-run cushion was more than enough for Stewart, whose eight innings was the right-hander’s longest outing of the season. In an emotional top of the ninth, Manny Delcarmen retired the side in order as the 18 year veteran was pitching in his final professional baseball game ever after announcing his retirement. Brignac, Rogers, Siena, Jamar Walton, and James Skelton each had two hits for New Britain in the victory. Photo provided courtesy of Megan Murnane.
